About Penpoint
The first dog I fell in love with was a liver/white Pointer bitch owned by my uncle. "Daisy" was a part of my life until she passed away when I was 12 I discovered that there was such a thing as "dog shows" when I was 11 through a family friend, and I was hooked. His breed was Dobermans, and my family, with his help, acquired "Phaedra" (Ri-Jan's Phaedra, CD) in December 1968. Though not a great show dog, she was a wonderful family pet and got my feet wet in the conformation, junior showmanship, and obedience rings Through a pen pal program, I corresponded with Elizabeth Amend who was showing a Doberman in California in junior showmanship. We became great friends and when her interests shifted from Dobermans to Pointers, I found myself the proud owner of a little liver bitch from her second litter. This girl I named "Shay" and she became my first champion and so much more to me--Ch. Alcyon Southern Style, CD won 100 Best of Breeds, 10 Group Firsts, and produced 9 champions, a Best in Show winners amongst them. More importantly, she was my best friend and lived with me until she passed away in my arms on her 14th birthday. Through the years, I have always had Pointers in my home and heart, but I bred very few litters until another special girl came into my life in 2001. This is "Doozie" (Ch. Pamelot's Easy Does It JH), and I thank Stacey Riga for dubbing her "Doozie" the first time she saw her because she is something quite special. Completing her championship in one weekend with 4 majors didn't convince me that this was a "specials" bitch--I felt that her contribution to the breed would be in the whelping box, and she has not disappointed. "Doozie" was the American Pointer Club's top producing bitch (tie) for 2004 Even though I personally have no interest in the hunting aspect of this breed, I definitely recognize the importance of keeping the breed for what it was originally bred. "Doozie" earned her Junior Hunter title in four tests and will out for more advanced hunting degrees with her buddy, Deb Mahoney, shortly. Our second breed is Bullmastiffs. I had no idea when I was asked to handle one Bullie for one weekend back in 1993 that I would be "hooked" for life. Our residence currently consists of two of this lovely breed as well as the Pointers. |
